Magical Research
House Lyema-Tzatz
There are many things that the House Lyema-Tzatz does in order to ensure that magic thrives in the modern world. One of their most important tasks is finding and preserving ancient spells. This is no easy feat, as much was lost after the great war of the 1st age. The purification fires from the Shadow Gate vaporized millions of reference materials from a time before that none remember.
House Lyema-Tzatz refers to the Drukduua to find potential caches of lost magic to bring it back into the current age, however, this does require the finest linguists, archaeologists, and cryptographers, to decipher the hidden messages that the Drukduua contains. The Curators of Magical Research will not rest until they have found every last spell from that period!

Curators of Magic
House Lyema-Tzatz is unique when it comes to magical research. They are a guild with one purpose, to study all things related to magic and how to use it. Their main focus is on an ancient tome from the 1st age, the only magical artifact that survived that the Arbiters didn’t seize or that wasn’t burned in the great purging fires of the Shadowgate. The name of this tome is called the Drukduua.
Benefits of Joining
The House of Lyema-Tzatz is a respected guild of curators of magical research. By joining their ranks, a character would gain access to a wealth of knowledge about magic that is not available to the general public. They would also be able to learn spells that are not commonly known, and they would have the opportunity to travel to some pretty amazing places. Finally, they could join the guild’s research efforts, allowing them to learn new things and contribute their findings.
The House of Lyema-Tzatz is always looking for new members interested in joining its ranks. If you think you have what it takes, please do not hesitate to contact them! They would be more than happy to have you as part of their team.
Knowledge vs. practical application
There is a danger in relying solely on book knowledge regarding magic. While it is true that a vast amount of information can be gained from reading about magic, it is also important to remember that there is no substitute for practical application. Magic is a powerful force; if it is not used correctly, the results can be disastrous. The walls of the Magical Research guild are enchanted, so any research shouldn’t escape; however, it is always good to remember that our research members, for the most part, are not registered Wizards and only are performing magic in a testing area based upon what is being studied.
It is important to remember that magic should not be taken lightly and should always be performed with caution. When practicing magic, many things can go wrong, and it is important to be prepared for anything. Book knowledge can be helpful, but it should never take the place of experience and common sense. Members of House Lyema-Tzatz who wish to apply magic with a more practical approach are invited to speak with the Guild Master about applying to one of the other magical houses to learn how to use magic properly.
The first tome
The Drukduua is broken into three sections. One part had the laws before the first age war (more on that altar). The Hose of the Hoy Rollers has a claim to that portion of the Drukduua. One part holds powerful spells that none have seen since the 1st age. The last part contained maps and clues to lost hidden caches and vaults of powerful magic. The Guild of Magical Research has been working with House Ebron-Varoon, The Cartographers Guild, and House Fallowmeer, The Navigator’s Guild, to send out expeditions in search of what was lost.
The Magical Research Guild has discovered in the third section of the Drukduua clues and references to other places in the world (or other dimensions, yet to be seen). In today’s 4th age, only the monuments of the ancient sites still stand, or what’s left of them? There are local tales that some of these sites were doorways into other places and spaces. There’s also talk of an in-between place, where some would travel great distances in a very short time. These are just some of the subjects that The Guild of Magical Research studies.
From within the pages of the Drukduua, we have gleaned that in the 1st age, Magic was performed by a combination of Verbal (be it whispered, spoken, or sung), Written down (a Spell Book, which has too many names to list here), Hand Gestures, The Tools of the Trade, (Wands, Scepters, Staffs, etc.), Knowledge (Astrology, Astronomy, Music, and Math) and Ancient Artifacts. Magic practiced today does not fully incorporate all that was once used, and the scrolls and books of House Pleayashayne, The Legends, and Lore Guild reference that Magic was different back then. Many want to return to what was lost.
Researchers life
Life in the magical research guild is one of curiosity and endless questioning. They are always looking for new ways to improve on old spells or to find new spells altogether. House Lyema-Tzatz is a well-respected guild, and their Curators of Magical Research are highly sought after. Many young researchers dream of one day joining their ranks.
Types of research
- The history of magic
- Types of magic
- Methods of performing magic
- Magic in the modern world
- Ancient spells and their effects
- The future of magical research
The work is hard, but it’s also rewarding. Researchers are always learning something new, and they get to share their findings with others in the guild. They also travel to some pretty amazing places, searching for old magic that may have been lost to time. It’s a dangerous job, but it’s a researcher’s life, and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
A small fortune
The House of Lyema-Tzatz is always looking for new ways to improve its methods and learn more about the magical world. They are constantly investigating new leads and researching different types of magic. If you have any information that could help them in their quest, please do not hesitate to contact them! There is a standing bounty on all knowledge that they do not know, so should you hear of something while out questing that you might think that House Leyma-Tzatz should be aware of, that knowledge may earn you a small fortune!
