They also control all non-player characters (NPC’s), villains and monsters that the players will encounter during their journey. Most importantly, they are responsible for adjudicating any rules disputes or uncertain situations that may occur throughout play.

Their job involves much more than simply telling a story; it requires creativity, improvisation and problem solving skills to keep players engaged and entertained throughout each game session. In addition to these core duties, they often have additional roles such as refereeing combat encounters or adjudicating character advancement when playing fantasy RPGs. For example, they may decide what kinds of rewards player characters receive after completing a quest or mission.

Ultimately, Dungeon/Game Masters provide an important service: they give players an opportunity to immerse themselves in their own unique narrative experience that combines elements of storytelling and gaming alike.
